HoiAn

HoiAn is a coastal town about halfway between Hanoi and Saigon. In the 16th and 17th Centuries it was an important trading city for the Chinese, Japanese, Dutch and Portuguese. However, the harbour entrance silted up and large boats could no longer enter. These days the fishing vessels anchor outside this sandbar and the woman in small boats ferry the fish to the market in HoiAn. The old town was added to UNESCO's world heritage list.
